Dahl Studio's Story
The First Note
From the time Dahl Studio founder, Kerri, was a small child, she loved music. Her family sang constantly at home and on the road. She pursued learning the harmonica, violin, clarinet, piano, and guitar before high school and then attended the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts in vocal performance. She was a founding member of their first ever jazz choir and participated for 5 years in CCSD honor choirs as well as All-State choirs. She also began conducting a youth choir in high school and had the opportunity to tour the US, Canada and Europe with LVA's ensembles, including singing at the White House.
Teach In Harmony
After high school, she picked up a few more instruments including organ and ukulele, attended UNLV for vocal performance, piano, composition, and music education, created her own preschool music curriculum using Orff-Schulwerk and Kodaly influences, which she taught until she fell in love with, and became a licensed teacher and director for, Music Together Worldwide. (Bringing the first Generations program to Las Vegas and teaching online music classes for both the Richmond Virginia School District and across the world for CISCO Worldwide during the COVID pandemic.) And, when her four children became capable of taking more management of their Cystic Fibrosis diagnoses, she followed her dream of opening her own studio in January 2019.
The Future Sounds Good
In addition to CF, Kerri's family has experience with raising children with special needs. Her experiences led her on a journey to find ways to teach ALL children music, regardless of age, stage, or ability. She is grateful to have had rich musical experiences in her youth and feels blessed to now be able to help create those experiences for others through an audiation-based approach to music instruction, based on the research of Edwin Gordon. The studio's efforts include scholarships, community outreach - like their park events to support the Grandfriends at assisted living facilities around the valley, and presenting as an expert at events like the Friends of Parkinson's roundtable on the benefits of music for Parkinson's patients, free classes through the North Las Vegas Library District, and being a registered vendor for special needs services, such as PALCO. She believes we are all musical, and that music education should be accessible, well-rounded, creative, play and experiment-based, and, above all, enjoyable! She believes music feeds our souls and brings us closer together and invites all to join in the music-making!
